It starts with a small shot, of Gengar and Nidorino having a battle; a replica to the beginning of Pok�mon Red. It then blends to the same battle with realism. Nidorino is soon put out by Gengar's hypnosis attack, and then the trainer callS out Onix.

The shot blends from a TV in Ash's room where Ash describes how he's now ten years old; old enough to get a Pok�mon Trainers Licsence. Ash declares to the world that he will become a Pok�mon Master, when his mom walks in telling him that it's 11:00, and to get to bed. Ash says he's too excited to sleep because tommorow's the big day when he starts his Pok�mon Journey.

His mom flips the channels and tells him to take a look, and get to bed when he's done. On the TV is Professor Oak who announces that tomorrow the beginner Pok�mon trainers can come to get their first Pok�mon. He introduces the choices: Squirtle, Bulbasaur, and Charmander.

Soon Ash is in bed, having dreams of Pok�mon and is talking in his sleep. He dreams of what it would be like to have Bulbasaur, but then reconsiders because he thinks Squitle may be a good choice. Morning comes and he's still in bed dreaming, thinking maybe Charmander is the best choice.

He wakes up in a flash, and realizes that he's late. So he runs out of bed and runs to Professor Oak's, in his PJs ready to get his Pok�mon. There's a crowd in front of Oak's and he cuts through to see a group of Chearleaders. Then he meets Gary for the first time, who says Ash is late and he acts cool, and shows off his new Pok�mon and says it's the best one ever. Gary announces to the crowd that he will become a Pok�mon Master and make the town of Pallet prowd. Ash asks which Pok�mon Gary got but Gary won't tell him. Then Gary leaves and the crowd follows.

Ash is all alone when Professor Oak walks up and tells Ash that he's late. He has doubts that Ash is ready, but Ash insists that he's ready for his Pok�mon. Oak brings Ash inside and into his lab where there are 3 pok�balls on a stand. Ash decides that he wants Squirtle, but when he opens the Pok�ball, it's empty. The same happens with Bulbasaur, and Charmander and Professor Oak says they were already taken by kids who were on time. Ash asks if there are any pok�mon left at all. Oak says there is one... and Ash exclaims that he'll take it, but Professor warns that this last Pok�mon is not going to be easy, and Ash insists. From the center of the platform a pok�ball rises, and out pops pikachu. Ash thinks he's great and picks him up, only to get a nasty electric shock from pikachu. Oak says it'll be tough because pikachu's got attitude, but Ash thinks he can handle it. After Oak gives him his pok�balls and pok�dex he leaves to find a smaller crowd along with his mother on the road cheering for him. Ash's mom has a full backpack of supplies prepared and is proud of Ash as he leaves for his pok�mon journey. When she sees that his pikachu isn't in it's pok�ball, Ash tries to get it in, but pikachu refuses. It seems pikachu doesn't like him very much.

Soon they're off, and Ash's dragging pikachu behind on a rope. He stops to talk to pikachu and asks if it doesn't like him, and pikachu says yes. Ash takes of the ropes and asks if it likes him now, but pikachu still says it doesn't like him. Then Ash spots a pidgey, and when he asks pikachu to go get it, pikachu refuses, and goes and climbs a tree. Ash tries throwing a pok�ball at it but pidgey escapes. He then takes his PJ shirt and nets the pidgey inside of it, and it struggles util suddenly a big tornado is made by pidgey's gust attack, and then it uses a sand attack.

Ash sees a rattata going through his backpack and shoes it away. He looks back and sees the pidgey again, and throws a rock at it. He scores, but soon find that it's not a pidgey, it's a Spearow, with a shorter temper, and more aggression.

The spearow attacks and after swooping by Ash it targets on pikachu, who's still up in the tree. Ash's Pok�dex says that some wild pok�mon can be jealous of trained pok�mon. It tries to get pikachu, but pikachu gives it a thunder shock and knocks it to the ground. The Spearow cries in alarm and a large flock of nearby spearows emerge from a tree, ready for revenge. The gang of spearow get pikachu, but Ash jumps in and grabs pikachu and runs. They come to a waterfall, and Ash jumps and goes rushing down a river. The shot goes to Misty in her first appearence, who's fishing at the side of the creek. She gets a big bite, and Ash and pikachu pop out of the water, and go to shore. Ash talks to Misty, and She advises that he get pikachu to a Pok�mon Center soon. Suddenly the flock of Spearow appear in the distance, so Ash quickly jumps on Misty's bike and pedals away. Misty yells after him, but he keeps going, fast as he can.

The spearow are close behind and a storm is brewing, when Ash Jumps a small bank and flies off the bike into the mud. The spearow are looming close, and pikachu is really hurt. Ash says that pikachu has to get in the ball because it's the only way to be safe. Ash says he'll never make pikachu go in it again if it just goes inside it this once. He turns around and faces the spearow with bravery, and mocks them saying he's going to be a pok�mon master, and just as they're swooping to attack him, pikachu comes running up Ash's shoulder, and jumps into the air, and gives the spearows a HUGE thundershock.

It's soon morning and Ash and pikachu wake up side by side on the ground where the spearow were, the see a rainbow and a big mysterious bird fly overhead with a trail of golden sparkles ( it's the legendary "Houou" ). Ash pick up pikachu and says it'll be alright, as he begins to carry it away to the Pok�mon Center, pikachu licks Ash on the cheek and it seems they have bonded. You see Viridian City in the close distance and the show fades...
